Sustainable solutions all over the world

From “waste” to value –
all over the world

Today more than ever, companies are faced with rising waste disposal costs and legislation aimed at reducing waste while promoting recycling.

At PYREG, we have the technology and innovative solutions to meet these demanding requirements. PYREG’s systems can convert your residues into valuable biochar and energy. At the same time, they offer a proven solution that helps reduce your carbon footprint and waste volume and sanitise your residues.

Worldwide Solutions

Growing Stockholm Greener

In Stockholm, Sweden‘s capital, green waste from parks and private gardens is processed into biochar in a climate-friendly manner. The parks and gardens department uses the biochar for the maintenance of the tree population. During the production of biochar, excess thermal energy is released. This is fed into the local heating network, which supplies city apartments with regenerative heat and hot water while saving fossil energy.

 ADVANTAGES

+ Better urban climate
+ CO2 Sequestration
+ Excess  thermal energy is used

SOIL PRODUCTION IN Austria

The first biochar production plant in Europe was built in Austria in 2012. The aim of this compost and soil plant goes one step further than the mere disposal of biomass – their aim is to produce the best possible compost qualities and subsequently the best possible finished soils for professional users such as garden designers. While beeing able to comply with the strict limits of the Waste Incineration Ordinance, the material is constantly available and deliverable in consistently high quality. The plant operates 24 hours a day and produces about 1,000 kg of high-quality biochar per day. This biochar pioneer feeds the total energy (150kW), released during the carbonization process, into its heat network – for heating and drying the feed material.

GREEN ENERGY PRODUCTION, LOCAL HEATING NETWORK IN Switzerland

At IWB’s (Industrielle Werke Basel) own site in the Kleinhüningen district   of Basel, innovative pyrolysis technology is used to carbonize previously unused, low-grade biomass such as green waste. The heat released in this process is used for the local IWB district heating network, and the biochar (550 tons annually) is used as a soil conditioner in the   agricultural field. The CO2 stored in the biochar remains in the soil and is not released back into the atmosphere. CO2 is thus actively removed from the cycle. The addition of biochar contributes to the fertility of the soil. It stores water, provides a habitat for important microorganisms and   binds harmful substances

ADVANTAGES

+ Transformation from previously unused biomass into high quality Biochar
+ 550 tons of biochar yearly is used as a soil improver
+ 4,5 gigawatt hours of energy is used to supply 170 households through the district heating networks per year

Recycling of waterborne litter

Polluted waters are a worldwide problem. Especially in countries without a governmental disposal system, this problem becomes an enormous sustainability and even health issue.
In order to reduce the mixed waste in rivers and waters, a solution is needed that can recycle the waste without having to separate it first. The PYREG system offers just that. It is located right on site. Therefore, no waste needs to be transported to distant incinerator plants. It can be recycled on site, without harmful CO2 emissions and without costly separation. The first system will go into operation in India in 2021.

ADVANTAGES

+ Recycle mixed waste in a sustainable way
+ Reducing the waste volume ip to 90%
+ On site recycling
+ Avoidance of Co2 emissions
+ Reduction of transportation costs

PYREG units in operation since 2023: PX 1500

SBC´s vision is to co-locate biochar production at large sources of biomass feedstock (byproducts from Maine’s vast working forests), thereby driving a true circular economy, through the application of innovative NetZero technology. These forestry byproducts will be used to produce an end product that nourishes soils, cleans water and removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, while simultaneously generating renewable energy.

DISPOSAL OF INDUSTRIAL SLUDGE in China

Industrial waste material can be carbonized
without prior sorting. The resulting homogeneous biochar can, e.g. be used as a filler in further integrated processes.

GERALD DUNST; MANAGING DIRECTOR

“In 2011, we opted for PYREG technology because only it could meet the strict limits of the Waste Incineration Ordinance. As we now know, this was absolutely the right decision. This summer we will expand our plant park with a PYREG plant (P1500).”

DARIO PRESEZZI; MANAGING DIRECTOR

“The treatment of biosolids from sewage sludge to biochar with high nutritional value is not only cost efficient, but also a sustainable solution to locally transform organic streams
into renewable energy and biochar. Once used as a phosphate fertilizer in the ground, it helps to improve the environmental footprint by sequestering CO2 for centuries. By reducing the
waste volume by 90 %, the PYREG technology offers a great cost saving.”

PENG JIANG; MANAGING DIRECTOR

“Our goal is to provide our customers with a complete, efficient and cost-effective solution which continually creates an add value. By integrating PYREG technology at the respective sites and making additional use of
the bioenergy generated, we have achieved this in a sustainable manner.”

WEIRONG CHEN; MANAGING DIRECTOR

“Critical, difficult to dispose of and cost-intensive industrial waste is not only a problem in the Asian region. PYREG plants enable our customers to recycle them in a sustainable way – directly at their site. In addition to enormous cost savings, the use of this technology also improves the waste balance, which makes it possible to expand the site.”

PROF. DR. HABIL. RER. NAT. BRUNO GLASER;SOIL BIOGEOCHEMISTS AND UNIVERSITY LECTURER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF HALLE (SAALE)

“I have been working successfully with PYREG for more than 10 years because their  technology allows the use of this natural problem solver.”

CASPAR VON ZIEGNER; MANAGING DIRECTOR

“As the leading marketer of EBC certified biochar, we invest heavily in applied research and in the certifiability of carbon sinks. In order to be able to guarantee our quality promise on a long-term basis, we have been successfully cooperating with PYREG from the
very beginning. We currently have three PYREG plants in operation and will soon expand our capacities.”

CHRISTOPH ZIMMERMANN; MANAGING DIRECTOR

“Our customers actively contribute to climate
protection, as carbon remains contained in the soil for hundreds of years (carbon sink). Over the course of time we have put three PYREG plants into operation – what better proof can there be that we stand by our ecologically and economically sensible decision?”

AARON SASSMANNSHAUSEN; MANAGING DIRECTOR

“Gentle carbonization of the residual materials is the basis of our valuable potting soil. We have chosen PYREG because their many years of scientific support and practical experience give us great security regarding our sustainable product quality.”

PETR HELLMICH; DIREKTOR

“Water supply and disposal plays a key role in securing peace, growth and prosperity worldwide. HST actively shapes environmental protection with solution-oriented engineering developments. PYREG plays a decisive role in this. Our project in Trutnov is an example of the successful implementation of a future-proof green technology.”
