Using our newly deve\u00adloped PX1500, IWB is now feeding an annual heating capa\u00adcity of around 1.5 giga\u00adwatt hours into the district heating network. That covers the energy needs of about 170 Basel house\u00adholds. IWB uses only regional, untreated biomass such as wood and green waste from a maximum radius of 40 kilo\u00adme\u00adters. In the PYREG plant, this high-quality biomass is carbo\u00adnized into biochar at 500 to 700 degrees Celsius in the absence of oxygen. In this biochar, CO<sub>2 <\/sub>is safely bound. Subse\u00adquently dispersed into the earth it ends up in a perma\u00adnent carbon sink.<\/p>\n<h4>IWB sells premium biochar and closes the&nbsp;loop<\/h4>\n<p>Through the advanced tempe\u00adra\u00adture-controlled Pyreg carbo\u00adniza\u00adtion, IWB produces a premium biochar certi\u00adfied as the inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnally accepted \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.european-biochar.org\/en\/ct\/1\">EBC-AgroBio<\/a>\u201e. That biochar complies with the requi\u00adre\u00adments for EU-wide use as a soil condi\u00adtioner \u2013 even in organic farming.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.iwb.ch\/Service\/IWB-CityCenter\/Pflanzenkohle.html\"> IWB sells the biochar<\/a> \u2013 ca. 550 metric tons per year \u2013 to both, agri\u00adcul\u00adtural enter\u00adprises, and private custo\u00admers. By doing so, IWB is also setting new stan\u00addards for circular economy in the muni\u00adcipal sector.<\/p>\n<h4>A flag\u00adship project<\/h4>\n<p>\u201eIWB is a pioneer in climate protec\u00adtion and living proof of the enormous climate protec\u00adtion value that lies in CO<sub>2<\/sub>-nega\u00adtive district heating,\u201c says Helmut Gerber, CTO and founder of PYREG GmbH, adding, \u201eWe are convinced that flag\u00adship projects like this one in Switz\u00ader\u00adland will follow world\u00adwide.
